George Zimmerman punched in face for “bragging” about Trayvon Martin shooting

(CNN) – George Zimmerman was punched in the face at a Sanford, Florida restaurant on Saturday after a man accused him of “bragging” about shooting Trayvon Martin, a Seminole County Sheriff’s incident report said.

A customer at the Gators Riverside Grille recognized Zimmerman but wanted him to prove his identity. Zimmerman then pulled out his driver’s license and showed it to the people at the table.

The incident report described the confrontation that ensued as follows: Mr. Whitmer said “You’re the one that shot that n— in Sanford, right here!”. Mr. Zimmerman was explaining to the people sitting at the table that he shot Travyon Martin in self-defense, when a large fat man approached with an orange shirt, later identified as Eddie and asked “You’re bragging about that?”. Mr. Zimmerman replied “No” at which point Eddie replied “You better get the f— out of here you n— lover, you ain’t welcome here.” and Mr. Zimmerman walked back to his table to join his friends eating.

Mr. Zimmerman stated approximately two minutes later Eddie approached him and stated “Didn’t I tell you to get the (expletive) out of here (derogatory term) lover?” at which point Mr. Zimmerman replied “I am not looking for any trouble”. Mr. Zimmerman stated Eddie then punched him directly in the face, pushed him aside to knock a phone out of Gregory Horne’s hands, a friend of Mr. Zimmerman. Mr. Zimmerman stated restaurant staff came over and got in-between Eddie and Mr. Zimmerman’s friends in an attempt to deescalate the situation. Mr. Zimmerman then called 911.

During the 911 call Zimmerman tells the operator: “We were standing right here eating. This man just punched me in the face. He said he’s gonna kill me. You need to send three or four cops. His friends are trying to pull him away. He hit me, he hit my friend’s cell phone.”

He later told the 911 operator he needed medical help and was bleeding.
