Game, set, match! Try your hand at tennis with USTA Central Indiana. Kimberly Hartzel, Executive Director, USTA Central Indiana, says right now, they still have openings in Indiana and it’s the perfect time to learn the sport, meet new people and have FUN with exercise!

Here’s some further information about the leagues:USTA League

• USTA League provides men and women age 18 and older the opportunity to compete against players of similar ability levels.

• Players participate on teams in a league format, organized into groups using six National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) levels ranging from 2.5 (entry) to 5.0 (advanced).

• USTA League offers a variety of levels and divisions for all ages and abilities; players compete only against opponents of similar ability. Teams can be made up of all women, all men, or mixed, depending on the division:

o Adult 18 & Over

o Adult 40 & Over

o Adult 55 & Over

o Adult 65 & Over

o Combo 18 & Over

o Tri-Level 18 & Over

o Mixed Division – 18 & Over

o Mixed Division – 40 & Over

• Teams can progress to district, state, section and even national championships based on division.

• Established in 1980, USTA League has grown from 13,000 participants competing regionally in its first year to more than 865,000 participants across the nation today, making it the world’s largest recreational tennis league.

Central Indiana District Combo Doubles Division – Special PromotionUSTA League Combo Doubles in Central Indiana

• Combo Doubles League NTRP levels of 5.5, 6.5, 7.5, and 8.5 are offered in Men, Women, and Mixed Divisions.

• Two players combine their skill (NTRP) level with a partner. For example:

o A 7.5 Women’s Doubles Combo team may consist of two women with individual NTRP levels of 4.0 and 3.5 (equaling 7.5), or 4.5 and 3.0.

• Registration currently underway with a special promotion for NEW players: all new players receive a rebate for his/her registration cost ($30).

o This does not include USTA membership fees but USTA membership required.

o Team registration open until Wednesday, September 7 (individual players can register through November).

• Matches will be played indoors at Indianapolis and Carmel facilities.

• USTA Central Indiana Combo Doubles

• Looking for something fun to do with friends this fall? USTA Central Indiana is offering a special promotion to all new players that register for the USTA League Combo Doubles Division. Players who are USTA members with a current NTRP rating or computer self-rating are eligible. All new players to this league will receive a rebate of the $30 registration fee.

• Combo Doubles League NTRP levels of 5.5, 6.5, 7.5, and 8.5 are offered in Men, Women, and Mixed Divisions. All matches will be played indoors at Indianapolis and Carmel facilities. Registration is open until Wednesday, Sept. 7.

• Combo Doubles teams consist of a minimum of six players of the same gender (except for Mixed Combo). Two players on the team combine their skill level (NTRP) with a partner for a fun, competitive experience. For example, a 7.5 Women’s Doubles Combo team may consist of two women with individual NTRP levels of 4.0 and 3.5, or 4.5 and 3.0 (equaling 7.5). Each team match then consists of three individual doubles team matches.Western & Southern Open

  • Don’t miss the opportunity to watch the best tennis players in the world! Just a short drive away from Indianapolis, the Western & Southern Open takes place at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio (just outside of Cincinnati).
  • This tournament is one of only five in the world, outside of the Slams, to host a top-level ATP World Tour (men) and WTA (women) event at the same venue during the same week. The only other cities to do so are Rome, Madrid, Miami, and Indian Wells. That’s why visitors get to see the best players in the world – the same ones you watch at Wimbledon and the US Open.
  • Millions of people from all over the world watch the event and last year, nearly 200,000 people attended – so now’s the time to get your tickets! Tickets can be ordered online from the event’s website at www.wsopen.com/ticket_landing_page.
  • In addition to watching the best tennis, fans have the opportunity to participate in several community events that take place throughout the event. Events for young kids, high school players, adaptive and wheelchair tennis players, and coaches, all can take part.
