Mom accused of throwing boiling water on toddler, father

AUSTIN (KXAN) – An Austin mother is accused of throwing boiling water on her 2-year-old son and his father, Tuesday.

Police were called to a house on Akron Cove in East Austin, where Austin-Travis County EMS medics were loading a man into an ambulance when they arrived. He told officers he was lying in bed and someone poured hot water on him.

Officers went to the home and spoke with Taleicia Winston, 18, who told them she boiled water and then poured in on the man, her child’s father, while he was sleeping. Winston said she threw the hot water “after learning he had cheated on her,” a police affidavit states.

The man’s burns were so severe he was referred to the Burn Care Unit in San Antonio, police say.

Officers noticed burns on their 2-year-old son’s chest, arms and face. Winston told police her child was sleeping in the bed with his father when she threw the boiling water on the bed.

The toddler received second and first degree burns throughout his body. Winston was charged with injury to a child and aggravated assault – family violence, both second degree felonies.
