Ride Safe Indiana hosts Motorcycle Safety Day at Indiana State Fair

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — More than 100 events were planned for day two of the Indiana State Fair. The majority of the events focused on fun, but there was one that focused on safety, specifically for motorcyclists.

Saturday is Motorcycle Safety Day at the Indiana State Fair. Motorcyclists can get VIP parking on Main Street.

The event is sponsored by Ride Safe Indiana, a motorcycle safety program within the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Their mission is to train and educate motorcyclists in order to decrease the number of motorcycle crashes and deaths. Ride Safe Indiana has a basic rider course and advanced training for both new and experienced riders.

“We encourage old riders, new riders to ride safely through our Ride Safe Indiana program,” said Dennis Buterbaugh, BMV spokesperson.

Ride Safe Indiana has a tent on Main Street where visitors can learn about motorcycle safety. The program states they are on pace to educate more than 6,000 riders. Their goal is to eventually have a training location within 50 miles of every person in Indiana.

Ride Safe Indiana will sponsor the Freestyle Moto X show Sunday at 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. and on Monday at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
