Man drowns in White River Saturday night

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – One man is dead after drowning in the White River Saturday.

According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, crews were called to West Thompson Street near I-465 where the White River leaves Indianapolis just before 11 p.m. Saturday.

IFD said that five Burmese men were fishing in the area when they discovered one of their friends went underwater and never resurfaced.

It was at that time the men entered the water and began searching for their friend.  About an hour later 911 was called.

However due to a language barrier, obtaining information and finding the exact location of the incident was difficult.

Crews did recover the body of 46-year-old Pau Mang just after 11:30 Saturday evening in 15 feet of water, about 15 feet from shore.

A preliminary investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department found nothing unusual about the incident.  Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the accident.
