Motorcycle ride benefits family of killed construction worker

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Nearly 300 motorcyclists tried to drive home the message of “slow down and pay attention” as they took off in the 3rd Annual Road Construction Awareness Ride from the Harley-Davidson dealership on the north side.

Just this past June, 31-year-old Derek Knowling of Noblesville was killed while working in a highway work zone.

It is a threat these construction workers see all too often.

“People are driving, texting, they are on their phones not paying attention. You know people are run off the road. They’re restricted, they only got a certain amount of width to drive down,” said construction worker Tony More.

More reminds us it only takes a few minutes to get through most zones and asks people to take the time to drive with caution.

Proceeds from Sunday’s event will go to help raise awareness for work zone safety and money from a raffle will go to help Derek Knowling’s family.

He left behind a wife and two small children.
