IU Health opening high-tech integrated service center in Plainfield
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indiana University Health is opening a high-tech integrated service center in Plainfield.
According to a release, the new building will have a robotically controlled picking system. It will be connected into other advanced logistic processes that will allow IU Health to enhance patient care behind the scenes.
“This project will fundamentally change the way we handle supplies for our entire network of hospitals and medical offices,” said Dennis Mullins, vice president of Supply Chain Operations for IU Health. “This will be much more than a best-of-breed hospital warehouse. This will be a fully integrated service center that leverages proven supply chain technology so we can do our part in improving the way healthcare is delivered.”
IU Health said it plans on using the 300,000-square-foot building to improve efficiency and lower costs by about $3 million a year. IU Health plans to do this through:
- Standardizing inventory
- Ordering in bulk at a discount
- Streamlining delivery routes
- Achieving efficient product returns
- Re-stocking of inventory
The official groundbreaking was Monday at 10 a.m. at the Plainfield Fire Station located at 400 Airtech Parkway in Plainfield. The building will open in 2017. Additional service lines and pharmacy will be added by the end of 2018.
