Blaze destroys 4 Columbus apartments, damages 2

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – 25 firefighters responded to a huge apartment blaze in Columbus on Monday night.

The Columbus Fire Department was called to the Fox Pointe Commons apartment complex at 7:30 p.m.

According to the release, when firefighters arrived, the apartment already had heavy fire.

Smoke could be seen from miles away.

Every occupant of the 8 unit apartment building was safe when firefighters arrived.

Four apartments were ruined during the fire. Two were severely damaged by smoke and water.

Fire officials say the fire was accidental and caused by discarded smoking materials.

According to the release, investigators found that a cigarette was discarded into “a homemade smoking receptacle that was situated next to hte exterior wall of the apartment.”
