Man injured in Delaware Co. crash airlifted to hospital

DELAWARE COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – One man was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital following a Wednesday morning accident in Delaware County.

According to Indiana State Police, the accident happened just before 9 a.m. on State Road 28 at County Road 600 West.

After arriving on scene, crews discovered that a man was trapped in a box utility van after it rear-ended a semi. The driver in the van, 32-year-old Samuel Morrison, was extricated from the vehicle by emergency crews.  After he was out of the vehicle, Morrison was then flown by medical helicopter to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for leg injuries.

ISP said Morrison was headed eastbound, but as he was coming upon the intersection, he was traveling too fast to stop at the stop sign.  It was at that time that the utility van rear-ended a semi, hitting the box trailer, that was stopped at the stop sign.

The driver of the semi, 29-year-old Erin Wimmer, was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
