Several car break-ins reported in far east side neighborhood

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Several car break-ins have people in one Indianapolis neighborhood on high alert. They happened sometime Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.

At least seven similar police reports were filed in a neighborhood off East 21st Street and German Church Road. Some of the cars were left unlocked and the owners woke up to find items missing. Other cars had their windows smashed.

According to the police reports, thieves got away with things like wallets, purses, a shotgun and ammunition.

“It’s just so frustrating. People who work so hard every day take home what they live and where they live and to be victimized like this it’s just sad. It’s a sad story,” said victim Lonnie Harness.

Harness said he had a similar situation happen five years ago. After that he says he changed his habits. He says he never leaves important valuables in the car. He even installed lights around his house that are connected to motion sensors. That wasn’t enough to deter thieves.

“They’re pretty bold people. They really are. They need to be apprehended and put in jail,” says Harness.

If you have information about any of these cases, you’re asked to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
