Teen driver veers into lake on Pokemon Go hunt

CELINA, Ohio (WANE) – Police said a car of teenage boys veered into a Celina lake late Wednesday as the boys were playing the popular Pokemon Go digital game.

Police were called just before 10 p.m. Wednesday to the Celina Boat Basin along Grand Lake in Celina after a caller reported a car was on the rocky shore and partially in the water there. Officers arrived to find a 2008 Honda stuck on the rocks on the west side of the basin in an area referred to as the Hot Water Hole, police said.

The boys told police they were all – the driver included – playing Pokemon Go on their cell phones when 16-year-old Lincoln James Eichler of Celina turned the car off Lakeshore Drive and into the parking area near the boat ramps. Eichler was trying to turn around when he drove onto the rocks and partially into the water, police said.

The three boys all escaped without injury. The Honda was left “teetering” on the rocks, police said.

Eichler was cited for failure to control and for using an electronic device while driving.
