Emergency crews were called to southbound I-465 near Same Jones Expressway around 2:45 p.m. for a two vehicle crash.

A passing off-duty Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Officer stopped and applied a tourniquet that likely saved the woman’s life, according to the Wayne Township Fire Department.

Medics said IMPD Officer Javed Richards likely saved the life of 51-year-old Bridget Stroud.

WTFD says the crash was caused by an SUV that rear-ended a flatbed wrecker, trapping Stroud in the SUV.

It took fire crews 15 minutes to free her from the vehicle. She was the only occupant in the vehicle, and no one else was injured.

Three lanes of the interstate were closed for a while, according to Indiana State Police.Stay with WISHTV.com for updates.
