PLAINFIELD, Ind. (WISH) – A popular central Indiana bicycling event came to an end Saturday.
For the past 10 years, bikers have participated in Gary’s Ride to honor fallen Indiana State Police Lt. Gary Dudley.
Dudley was an avid bicyclist who was killed after being hit by a truck while participating in a charity ride back in 2006.
His family set up the Gary Dudley Memoral Scholarship Foundation after his death.
Hundreds of riders have shown up every year since to participate in Gary’s Ride.
Dudley’s wife says Saturday was bittersweet, but from the start they decided the event would wrap up after 10 years.
“We have awarded in scholarships $180,000 to date,” Dudley’s wife, Carolyn Dudley, said. “Even though this is our final Gary’s Ride, we’ll continue the scholarships for a long time.
All of the scholarships went to children of fallen officers.
