Chef Wendell: Healthy homemade milkshakes
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – When it’s hot, everyone enjoys a cooling treat that quenches our thirst and the desire for something sweet. If your milkshake comes from a fast food drive thru window, it’s most likely filled with sugar, chemicals and food colorings. These creamy milkshake recipes will satisfy your sweet tooth and create health.
Chocolate Milk Shake
1 cup non-dairy chocolate chips
1 cup unsweetened almond, hemp or coconut milk
1/2 cup brown rice syrup
2 cups coconut ice cream
- Place chips in a double boiler over medium heat; Wisk till smooth. Not too hot! Reserve.
- Bring milk and syrup to a boil and whisk into chocolate to create smooth syrup. Cool to room temp first.
In the blender:
Place ice cream and chocolate mix into a blender on low and gradually increase to high. Mix till creamy.
Variations: Frozen fresh blueberries, raspberries, vanilla vegan ice cream and almond, hemp or coconut milk.
Make a vanilla shake by using vanilla coconut ice cream and coconut milk, 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract and 1 cup ice cubes.
