Heavy rain, flooding possible this weekend

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Have plans outside this weekend?  The forecast for Saturday and Sunday may alter those plans.

Widespread rain, potentially heavy at times is anticipated to move into central Indiana this weekend.  A flash flood watch has already been issued for much of the southern third of the state until Monday morning.

Rain should become more widespread and intense as we move deeper into our Saturday morning and afternoon.  Rainfall rates of over an inch per hour could be possible in a few isolated spots.

On top of the flooding risk, there is a marginal (low end) risk for severe storms for the southeastern portions of the state.  Damaging winds will be the main threat.

Showers should become more scattered by Saturday evening, but will likely ramp up again early Sunday morning, and again Sunday night.  The pattern will remain active through much of the work/school week-with nearly daily rain chances in the eight-day forecast.

Some areas could receive 2″-4″ of rainfall through Monday morning.
