Complaints to Indiana board prompted school corp FBI probe

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) – Complaints to an Indiana state agency prompted a federal investigation of Vigo County School Corp.’s “contracting procedures.”

Paul Joyce is the state examiner for the Indiana State Board of Accounts. He tells The (Terre Haute) Tribune Star the agency received information that triggered a special audit. Information gathered during that audit led to a federal investigation and June FBI raid on the corporation’s offices.

Joyce says he spoke to the school corporation in February and the corporation was cooperative. The board says its review was based on “issues with the corporations contracting procedures.”

Joyce says the corporation remains under investigation.

The newspaper has reported that computers, thumb drives and recordings were among the items seized during the June 8 warrant service at the administration office and two other facilities.
