Lafayette man believed to have drowned in Lake Michigan

CHESTERTON, Ind. (WLFI) – Indiana conservation officers are investigating the death of a Lafayette man after he was found unresponsive on the shores of Lake Michigan.

John Lank, 29, of Lafayette was at the Indiana Dunes State Park after the beach had closed, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Witnesses said they found Lank unresponsive near the water’s edge on Saturday evening and immediately called 911. DNR says the witnesses did CPR until medical help arrived.

Lank was taken to Porter Regional Hospital for treatment. He died there early Sunday morning with family by his side.

DNR says Lank’s cause of death is possibly drowning, but officers are still investigating. Toxicology results are pending.

Jonathan Fisher, with Fisher Funeral Chapel, said they are handling the funeral arrangements for Lank. Fisher said the family has setup a funding page to help with services if anyone would like to contribute.
