Brownsburg faces day two of tornado’s aftermath

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (WISH) –Two days after a tornado swept through Brownsburg, locals are facing the storm’s aftermath.

Shredded tree limbs, uprooted trees and piles of debris surrounded the Rolling Acres neighborhood. Dozens of cleanup companies worked through the day Wednesday as the sound of their chainsaws echoed down Hammon Drive.

For the people of Brownsburg, it’s the sound of progress.

“Everything’s more cleaned up,” local Andrew Stain said. “You can drive down the roads.”

But even after two days, Jim Stoner’s work is cut out for him.

Falling trees and flying debris tore his siding and crushed some of his furniture. A body shop is deciding whether his two cars are repairable after they were buried by debris.

The storm uprooted a 50-year-old tree that now sits in his backyard.

“It’s something you don’t think will happen to you,” Stoner said. “We came out and we started looking at the damage and we just started crying. It was bad.”

The smaller limbs are stacked on his front lawn, right next to his neighbor’s pile and their neighbor’s pile.

Tree removal workers said they’re shredding from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

“It’s a nightmare to these people,” John Collins of F&O Tree Service said. “It’s a blessing nobody was killed or hurt. That’s about the only good thing that comes out of this.”

Duke Energy restored power to Stain and his neighbors Tuesday afternoon. A company spokesperson said Wednesday they’d restored power to everyone affected by the storm.

Stoner said more than a dozen people–some of them strangers–showed up at his house looking to help him clean up this week.
