André Carson ‘deeply concerned’ about Trump campaign

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — André Carson is speaking out against Donald Trump again. The Indiana congressman criticized the shakeup in the Trump campaign during a cable TV appearance.

Rep. Carson (D-7th District) is becoming a go-to-guy for reporters looking for Trump criticism. Last week he made national headlines by suggesting that Trump was sabotaging his own campaign.

Thursday, he was on CNN both defending Hillary Clinton and expressing concern about the new leadership in the Trump campaign.

Wednesday, Trump named Steve Bannon of Breitbart News as campaign CEO. Pollster Kellyanne Conway was named campaign manager.

The changes are aimed at taking the campaign in its current direction instead of making the pivot to more traditional campaign tactics called for by key GOP leaders.

Carson doesn’t like what he sees. “If he’s ramping things up to Trump 3.0, that means that he will probably be meaner, bolder, more insidious and more direct in terms of his insults against the Latino American community, Muslims, and other folks. And so him making a switch and adding more people onto the campaign who are like him concerns me deeply.”

One reason why Congressman Carson can be so outspoken is the fact that he is in a safe Democratic district.

But he also is an ardent supporter of Hillary Clinton and the ties between his family and the Clinton family go way back. As President, Bill Clinton came to Indianapolis to campaign for Carson’s grandmother, former Congresswoman Julia Carson.
