Men posing as home improvement workers, steal 87-year-old woman’s wallet

PLAINFIELD, IN (WISH) – Plainfield Police have released surveillance photos of two men suspected of posing as employees from a roofing company, then stealing an 87 year old woman’s wallet and charging thousands of dollars on her credit cards.

It happened early Tuesday evening.

Betty Ross told police two men knocked on her door and said they were from a roof manufacturing company. She said they told her they needed to inspect her roof. She declined, but said the men kept pushing.

They were able to get her out of the house. Ross said one of them was trying to sell her on a new sealant for her roof. She said she once again declined and then the men left. When she went back inside, she said her house had been ransacked and her wallet was gone.

“Every drawer and every closet and every nook and cranny was all pulled out,” said Ross.

Police said the men used her credit cards at a gas station and Walmart to make around $3,000 worth of purchases.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police took a similar report on Tuesday. They said three men went into an 86-year-old woman’s home on South Olney Street and offered to do work in her back yard. While one talked with her, another went into her bedroom and took her wallet.
