Pair arraigned on murder charges

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Two men were formally arraigned on murder charges Monday. The charges stem from two unrelated shootings which happened minutes apart, the night of Sunday, August 14.

29-year old Andrew Cassaday is charged with murder.

Police said Cassaday shot and killed 28-year old Jeffrey Lute outside of Texas Roadhouse on Washington Center Road.

A friend of Lute told 24-Hour News 8’s sister station, WANE, that he was once in a motorcycle club together, but Lute left, angering others in the group.

According to witnesses, an argument Sunday night led to Lute shooting another man before Cassaday shot Lute.

Cassaday is also charged with carrying a handgun with a prior felony conviction.

In the same courtroom, with the same judge, 17-year-old Kevin Hamilton made his initial appearance.

Hamilton will face trial as an adult charged with murder, felony murder and robbery.

Police said he shot and killed 18-year-old Brian Quintana in a parking lot of the Woodbridge apartment complex, along St. Joe Center Road.

According to court documents, Hamilton and another person met with Quintana to buy marijuana, when an argument broke out, leading to the shooting.

The other person involved with the Woodbridge shooting was released last week, after the Allen County prosecutor’s office said there was not enough evidence to press charges.
