INDOT awards road funding grants to communities across Central IN

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – 100 different communities are getting money from the state for infrastructure projects. The funding comes from legislation passed by lawmakers earlier this year.

Monday in Central Indiana, communities like Westfield and Avon received their money from the Community Crossings Match Grant Program. The program is from the state for local communities.

Those communities needed to allocate funding ahead of applying and submitting project ideas. The state is splitting the cost, 50/50, on a multitude of what INDOT and state leaders are calling “high priority local projects.”

Projects include road and bridge preservation, roundabouts construction, and  road reconstruction projects. Trails and enhancement type work were not eligible for this money.

Here is a list of the communities receiving $1 million, which is the cap amount for funding:

  • Anderson
  • Avon
  • Boone County
  • Carmel
  • Clay County
  • Fishers
  • Hamilton County
  • Handcock County
  • Hendricks County
  • Henry County
  • Indianapolis
  • Kokomo
  • Lafayette
  • Lawrence
  • Owen County
  • Plainfield
  • Shelby County
  • Shelbyville
  • Wayne County
  • Westfield
  • Zionsville

Lieutenant Governor of Indiana, Eric Holcolmb said Indiana is investing $850 million on more than 770 road and infrastructure projects this year, which means more checks need to be handed out.

INDOT officials said they will be in Southern Indiana Tuesday and Northern Indiana on Wednesday handing out more checks.
