Japanese auto manufacturer expanding in Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A Japanese auto manufacturer is expanding in Indiana, and Eli Lilly gets fast track status for its Alzheimer’s drug.

A Japan-owned manufacturer of automotive parts, announced plans Wednesday to expand its operations in Jackson County, creating up to 100 new jobs by the end of 2018.

Aisen Seiki will invest $100 million in its plant which makes door framers, latching systems and seats.

It already employs 1,700 people at the Seymour facility.

In other business headlines, Eli Lilly has received fast-track designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its Alzheimer’s drug. It’s a status designed to speed up the development of promising new medicines.

The U.S. FDA awards fast track designation to drugs it believes could fulfill an unmet need in a serious condition.

The drug works to prevent the build up of amyloid, a protein thought to cause Alzheimer’s disease.
