Trump campaign spells out Indiana plans

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Trump/Pence campaign is teaming up with the Indiana Republican Party to boost get-out-the-vote efforts in November.

Indiana has been good to Donald Trump and they want that to continue. Trump clinched the GOP nomination by winning the Indiana primary and he came here to pick Mike Pence as his running mate.

Now the Trump campaign is investing in a ground game here with three paid staffers and a state headquarters that opens this week.

Indiana Trump chairman Rex Early and co-chair Tony Samuel appeared with state GOP chairman Jeff Cardwell Wednesday to spell out new plans that are unusual for a Republican Presidential candidate in this state.

They include using volunteers to make thousands of phone calls and knock on thousands of doors.

“Our goal now for the general election,” said Samuel, “is to be the first state on the board in the win column for the Trump/Pence campaign.”

“And I’m telling ya,” said Early, “we’re going to be on Hillary like a fat boy on a muffin. We’re going after ’em.”

The Hillary Clinton campaign spent little in Indiana in the weeks leading up to the May Primary has no ground organization in place here at the moment.

Indiana is not considered to be a battleground state and Trump leads in Indiana polling.

The leaders of his campaign here said they intend to work hard enough so that there is no chance that Indiana is in play come November.
