Study: Gene tests ID cancer patients who can skip chemo

(WISH) – A new test could mean some breast cancer patients can skip chemotherapy without hurting their chances of survival.

According to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, for nearly half of the women in early-stage breast cancer, chemo may not be effective.

Researchers used mamma-print tests to measure the activity of genes that control the growth and spread of cancer. They were able to identify women at risk of the cancer reoccurring.CNN contributed to this report.
