Rotary Club robbed of supplies for ‘Indy Do Day’

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A local organization is stopped dead in its tracks after most of its promotional items are stolen.

The items were stolen from the Rotary Club as it prepares for “Indy Do Day.”

“My initial reaction was sort of like, the wind being taken out of our sails,” said Lisa Treadwell, the co-chair for the Day of Service. “We’ve been working really, really hard on this.”

That theft happened Monday morning in the Old Northside neighborhood.

Organizers said they’re going to keep pushing forward to make this event happen.

And they’re already seeing some good fortunes coming their way: AT & T announced Tuesday it would replace the stolen supplies, but those at the Rotary said some things just can’t be replaced.

“I just saw all of those conversations and that ability to reconnect with those people kind of fall through the cracks,” said Jenny Dexter, who’s truck was stolen from in front of her house, along with the supplies.

The theft happened Monday morning when the Dexter’s truck was parked near 16th Street and Carrollton Avenue.

They lost things like tablecloths, giveaway items, flags and banners. The monetary loss is over $1,000.

They also lost contact information for hundreds of potential volunteers that they met at the Feast of Lanterns.

“It was a lot of time, a lot of effort and it was hot, but we did it because we felt compelled to and we wanted to,” said Dexter.

Indy Do Day is September 29 and 30 and October 1. It’s an off-shoot of Lilly’s Day of Service.

“Our goal is to highlight the good that Hoosiers are already doing all over Indianapolis, and inspire others into action,” said Treadwell.

They said they need 20,000 volunteers to pull it off.

“We promised them (potential volunteers) some informational emails and just reaching out to give them more information and yeah we can’t do that right now,” said Treadwell.

If you’re available to volunteer, or you were at the Feast of Lanterns on Saturday August 27 at Spades Park and signed up to volunteer, you’re asked to contact the Rotary Club.
