Unmarked IMPD sedan among several cars broken into on southwest side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Police are looking for a person responsible for breaking into several cars in a southwest side neighborhood.

The break-ins occurred in the Heatherwood subdivision overnight Monday or early Tuesday morning.

The suspect went door to door knocking out windows of numerous vehicles, including an unmarked police car sitting in a driveway.

According to IMPD, nothing was taken out of the police vehicle.

Smashed car windows left expensive repair bills for residents in the neighborhood.

“It is sad. We all work to pay for what we have,” said Jennifer Volheim, a victim. “For someone to come and smash windows, it is sad.”

According to police reports, the suspect got away with some loose change. One neighbor said he found his wallet along the street after the suspect tossed it to the ground because it didn’t contain any cash.

Anyone who may recognize the person in the surveillance video or has information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS.
