2nd arrest made in Newton County triple homicide

NEWTON COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – The Newton County Sheriff’s Office has made a second arrest in the triple murder that occurred Sunday night in Sumava Resorts, Indiana.

Just after 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, the sheriff’s office along with Indiana State Police arrested Derrick Cardosi, 24, from Sumava Resorts.

Newton County Sheriff Thomas VanVleet said Cardosi was arrested at his home and taken to the Newton County Jail. He’s being held without bond until his initial hearing.

Cardosi faces preliminary charges of assisting a criminal and conspiracy to commit murder.

The first suspect, 24-year-old Sebastian Wedding of Cedar Lake, Indiana, was arrested around 9 a.m. Monday in connection to the case. He is being held in the Newton County Jail without bond.

Authorities responded to the home on the 11000 block of North County Road 250 West around 8 p.m. CT. Sunday after a 911 call came in saying a man was bleeding. When officers arrived, they found three people dead in the home. The victims were later identified as Justin Babbs, 20, Kimberly Spears, 39, and Richard Thomas, 23.

Newton County Coroner Scott McCord ruled the deaths homicide and concluded all three victims died from multiple stab wounds.
