Lawrence police stop career burglar

LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) – On August 23, Joey Wilson was released from Pendleton Correctional Facility. This after serving a three-year prison sentence for burglary.

On the seventh day of his release, it appeared he would be headed back to prison. According to Lawrence Police Department, Wilson used a crow bar to pry open the door at La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant on 56th Street just off Lawton Loop Drive.

Once police arrived they noticed the door had been forced opened, and suddenly Wilson stepped outside with three bottles of alcohol in his hand, and one hand behind his back. According to court documents, officers ordered Wilson to show his other hand. Police said he intially refused their commands. Eventually, Wilson dropped the bottles and threw a crow bar to the ground that was behind his back.

Officers arrested Wilson who was already on probation. He refused to make a comment on the scene. Officers then took him to the Marion County Jail.

24-Hour News 8, did some digging and discovered that since 2013, Wilson has been sentenced five times in the past three years for burglary.

“You see some people get out, and they end up right back in prison, it can be a bit frustrating,” said Lawrence Police Deputy Chief, Gary Woodruff.

Officers towed a gray SUV left near the scene. It is unclear at this point if Wilson used the vehicle to drive to La Hacienda.
