INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — IMPD is searching for a woman suspected of shoplifting and assaulting an officer.

Police say an officer doing a routine check at the Nora Kroger saw a woman stuff liquor into her bag after she paid.

He waited until she exited the store and confronted her in the parking lot, around 2:15 a.m. Wednesday.

The woman struck the officer, giving him a bloody lip.

The officer is expected to be OK.

He tried to tase her, but it missed and she jumped into a waiting car and she and the male driver fled east on 86th Street.

The officer followed the car and found it flipped at Barlum and Westfield Boulevard.

Police say the car hit a utility pole and started to catch fire.

The male was trapped in the vehicle. Firefighters arrived and extricated him from the vehicle. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

He has been identified at 28-year-old Joshua Draper. He was wanted on an outstanding warrant from Marion County for possession and dealing cocaine, resisting law enforcement and possession of marijuana.

After an extensive search of the surrounding neighborhoods with K-9’s, IMPD could not locate the female suspect.

The woman is looking at preliminary charges of felony assault on an officer.

This is a developing story, check back to for updates.
