Funny Car racer Alexis DeJoria is ready for a comeback in Indy

She’s ready to make a comeback! NHRA Driver Alexis DeJoria suffered a fractured pelvis at Sonoma Raceway in July and had to miss the past two races due to her injury. Indy will be her first time returning to the track since her crash, and she is determined to qualify for her third consecutive Countdown to the Championship this weekend in Indy. Alexis chats with Amber about how she’s preparing to overcome, move on and be better than ever!

-Alexis goes into the race sitting in 10th. In order to be qualified for the Countdown to the Championship (NHRA’s version of the playoffs) she will have to remain in the Top Ten by the end of the weekend.
-The 11th and 12th ranked drivers are hot on her heels; If Alexis can retain her Top Ten spot, she will have an opportunity to make a run for the Championship. Her ultimate career goal is to become the first female Funny Car champion.
-Alexis won the Indy race two years ago back in 2014

Alexis suffered a fractured pelvis last month when we were racing in Sonoma, Calif. She has missed two races since then, due to the injury. Rather than hang up her helmet, Alexis is determined to return with a vengeance, and Indy will be her BIG comeback race! When Alexis straps into her 10,000-horsepower 330-mph race car next weekend in Indy, it will be her first time back at a race track since her harrowing accident in July.

She won earlier this season in Vegas which helped give her enough of a points lead to retain a Top Ten spot, despite missing the past two events. She is going into Indy ranked 10th with a small margin between her and the No. 11 ranked driver. If Alexis does not finish Indy in the Top Ten, she will not have a chance to compete for the 2016 Funny Car championship. Her ultimate goal is to become the first female to win a Funny Car Championship, and her success in Indy is crucial to having an opportunity to achieve this goal, so there is a lot riding on this comeback race.
