Trooper takes man into custody, then saves his life

BLUFFTON, Ind. (WANE) Police may have saved the life of a man they had just taken into custody.

Around 3:30 Wednesday afternoon, Indiana State Trooper Anthony Repass and deputies with the Wells County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of a physical fight at a home in the 8700 block of south State Road 1.

Just before they got there, they learned that a man inside the home, 26-year-old Josh Miller, was wanted. Officers took him into custody and as he was being walked through the house, his legs began to shake and he started to collapse.

As Miller began to convulse, he admitted he’d recently taken heroin. Trooper Repass administered a dose of Narcan, a drug that reverses the effects of an opioid overdose. Repass received training and was issued his Narcan kit in just the last three to four weeks.

Miller was taken to a Bluffton hospital for further treatment.
