Police: Man crashes while driving drunk with 4-year-old girl in car

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man was charged with child neglect after he allegedly crashed his car while driving under the influence with his girlfriend’s 4-year-old daughter Thursday night

Metro police reported 34-year-old Danmion Eddings was involved in a crash at the intersection of Dickerson Pike and Rock Street.

After the crash, Eddings allegedly was able to drive away from the accident to nearby Gordon Street where he approached a resident and asked to use her phone.

Eddings also asked if the 4-year-old girl could sit on her porch and she agreed, according to police.

When Eddings reportedly asked if he could hide his marijuana in her yard, she said no but he continued to ask until she agreed to let him hide it in her mailbox.

Officers responding to the wreck located Eddings on Gordon Street and noted he smelled of alcohol, had red, watery eyes and was unsteady on his feet, according to an affidavit.

When interviewed for officers, the 4-year-old girl reportedly told police she was not sitting in her car seat at the time of the crash. Police said the car seat was found by officers in the backseat but was not secured to the vehicle by any restraints.

The girl was transported to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital for treatment as she may have sustained internal injuries in the crash. The other driver was treated for a broken arm.

During the investigation, officers reportedly recovered an open container of alcohol from the vehicle and marijuana and Xanax pills from the mailbox on Gordon Street.

Eddings was booked into the Metro jail and charged with vehicular assault, drug possession, aggravated child neglect, tampering with evidence, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident. His bond was set at $85,000.
