Thousands of Walmart workers losing jobs to robots

(WISH) – Thousands of Walmart workers are losing their jobs to robots, and Vera Bradley’s still not catching on with shoppers.

Walmart is cutting thousands of jobs.The jobs are in accounting and invoicing as the world’s largest retailer moves to automate that work.

The workers will be offered other positions in the company, according to the Wall Street Journal.

In other business headlines, Fort Wayne based Vera Bradley had some good news and bad news.

Sales are still sluggish at the handbag maker. The company is trying to breathe new life into its brand by offering different materials like leather and microfibers as well as opening a store in Soho, New York.

It’s also branching out into stationary and office products, but those efforts have yet to take hold and profits will be lower this year than expected.
