IMPD arrests 3 people connected to break-ins near Castleton

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Some shoppers said they’re relieved after police arrested three people in connection to several car break-ins in the Castleton area.

Police said those break-ins happened in the past few weeks.

According to an police report, a detective was following a car believed to be connected to several thefts. He noticed people inside of that car stealing from other cars. Police tried stopping that car but the driver led them on a chase.

The chase began near the busy shopping area of 82nd Street and Center Run Drive last Friday. It ended about eight minutes away near 62nd Street and Allisonville Road.

Some people working nearby at a pizza shop told 24-Hour News 8 off camera they heard the police activity.

Police arrested three passengers, Christopher Harris, Ab-Hunn Robinson and Reginald Parker. Police said they set up a perimeter looking for the driver, who took off running from the scene.

“Me personally I don’t have any sympathy for thieves and I don’t think anybody does,” said Jonathan Fortson, who was shopping on Labor Day.

Fortson heard about the arrests. He said he’s trying to do a better job at protecting his car for the next shopping trip.

“I should but I don’t. If you look at my car right now, probably will have a couple of dollars in the ashtray or the glove compartment,” he said.

Other shoppers said they are not taking any chances.

“I try to keep myself safe so I make sure I lock my doors and hide all my belongings my personal belongings in my car,” said Breonna Parham, who was shopping on Labor Day.

Breonna Parham was shopping with her daughter. She said they do their shopping in Castleton every once in a while.

“I usually shop here maybe I’d say once or twice every month or so,” she said.

Shoppers are glad police have made any arrests, but know it won’t be the last.

“Some people just want an easy dollar, some people don’t want to work, some people don’t respect other people’s properties,” said Fortson.

Police are still looking for the driver, but have not released a suspect’s description.

An initial hearing for the men arrested is scheduled for later this week. Court records did not list their formal charges as of Monday night.
