IMPD reviewing shootout caught on video

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a shootout at a gas station Saturday morning.

Surveillance cameras capture the shooting at the Phillips 66 near 25th Street and Sherman Avenue.

In the video you see a group of people gather outside the gas station on Saturday around 4 a.m.

The crowd grows larger and larger and it appears the people are just hanging out and passing time.

Suddenly a crowd within the crowd gathers. Words are spoken, someone is pushed, guns are drawn, and shots are fired.

The crowd jumps into various vehicles and drive off. When the smoke clears a woman is driven to Community East Hospital with a gun shot wound to the hip. She is transferred to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital for surgery.

According to IMPD, the victim is listed in serious condition.

Some business owners less than a block away on Station Street were frustrated after learning about the shooting.

There is talk that those doing the shooting don’t live in the Brightwood Community.

“People who were doing the shooting, they weren’t from Brightwood, it was two different neighborhoods that ended up meeting at the gas station,” said Salento Henderson, Brightwood business owner.

Henderson adds that on the weekends large groups of teens and young adults hang out in the parking lots and on side streets around 25th Street and Shadeland Avenue.

If you have any information on the shooting you are urged to call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS, or 262-8477.
