HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) –  Gov. Mike Pence has requested federal low-interest disaster loans for Howard County.

The move comes after the severe weather that hit Kokomo and Howard County on August 24.

According to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, a number of other counties would also be eligible for the loans if the governor’s request is granted.

Those counties that would be also be eligible for the loans include Cass, Carroll, Clinton, Tipton, Grant and Miami. Additionally, residents, businesses and a number of non-profits would be eligible to apply for those federal loans.

The mayor of Kokomo said the loans federal loans would help the city continue the recovery process.

“The low-interest loans are a way for this community to take control of our own recovery. We unfortunately faced a similar situation in 2013, and from that trial, Kokomo has come back stronger and more vibrant than before. I’m confident we can do so again,” said Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight.
