CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) — You might already be familiar with their beer, but now Sun King Brewing is branching out.
Sun King has a very well-known brewing location in downtown Indianapolis. Now, as they branch out with their product line, they’re expanding geographically as well.
“It’s an absolutely new area for us, and it’s really a natural extension of the brewing process,” Sun King President, Bob Whitt said.
Sun King Brewing company will soon be a distilling company as well.
“We’re going to take many of our favorite beers, we’re going to then distill them, and see what they come out like,” he said.
To make this new line of business possible, they need a new building. For that mission, they’ve chosen Carmel.
“Because it’s a vibrant community, this site is exactly where we want to be in terms of all the stuff that’s developing,” he said.
“This will be a great connection between our arts and design district and the city center, our new downtown district,” Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard said.
The new 15,000 square foot tap room, bar, and distillery will be in the midtown district.
“It’s great to see an area, an older area that’s really filled with industrial buildings get new life, be renovated,” Brainard said.
The tap room will be right along the Monon Trail. That’s a feature they have greatly considered in the design and function of the new development.
“We’ll have a second story deck, overlooking the trail,” Whitt said, “Additionally, we’ll have outstanding outdoor seating right on the Monon Trail so it’s going to be a fantastic place for folks to stop and have a break.”
If they’ve got a basket on their bicycle, they can take some Sun King to go.
“You’ll be able to buy liquor by the cocktail or by the bottle,” he said.
The Carmel location is set to open next fall.
