NWS confirms seventh tornado in August storms

HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – The National Weather Service has confirmed that a seventh tornado hit central Indiana during storms last month.

According to the report, on August 24, an EF-1 tornado touched down on the north side of Indian Heights in Howard County. The tornado damaged homes and trees.

The NWS had already confirmed six other tornadoes from that day, most in Howard County and the others across Carroll, Marion and Montgomery Counties.

The storms in Howard County destroyed 249 apartments, ripped through a Starbucks and left several homes destroyed.

Even with the amount of damage left behind victims in Kokomo will not get financial assistance from the federal government. The Howard County Emergency Management Agency said the damage done does not meet the criteria to get victim’s assistance from the federal government.
