Two IPS assistant coaches arrested for dealing, possession of marijuana

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Two assistant coaches with Indianapolis Public Schools have been arrested on drug possession and dealing charges.

Michael Malone and Jarell Smith are assistant coaches at Northwest High School. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said the arrest stemmed from a traffic stop.

Malone faces a preliminary level six felony of dealing marijuana and a class A misdemeanor for possession of marijuana.

Smith faces a level six felony of dealing marijuana and a level six felony of possession of marijuana.

IPS released a statement on the matter Friday evening, saying both have been suspended.

Two IPS employees were arrested on marijuana-related charges on Thursday, September 8. This incident did not happen on school property nor did it involve students, and the employees did not return to school after the arrest. Both employees have been suspended pending further information.”
