Nurse performs CPR to save man in Madison County crash

MADISON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – A man in the small Madison County community of Markleville helped save a life this weekend.

Markleville police say a 67-year-old man was driving on South State Street Saturday before hitting a utility pole.

A woman told officers he was driving straight toward her — but looked like he was having medical issues because his head was down. Police say he ended up crashing into a utility pole.

A neighbor, who happened to be a cardiac nurse, noticed the driver didn’t have a pulse. He started CPR and was able to get his pulse back in less than two minutes.

The man was taken to the hospital. It’s not clear as of Sunday evening what caused his crash.
