FBI and IMPD go through identity theft training

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – LifeLock is designed to protect consumers from identity theft. On Monday, LifeLock team members trained IMPD and the FBI how to create roadblocks for those using skimmers.

The group of investigators including undercover officers went through an hour and half of training on Monday. A guide taught the investigators the trends of identity theft, latest tactics and the evolution of the skimmer.

“We are seeing across the country gas station skimmers,” said LifeLock Chief of Identity Education, Paige Hanson.

According to National Institute of Justice, there are an estimated nine million incidents of identity theft each year.

For two days the investigators will go through the training at the IMPD Training Academy, the officers will then take their newly acquired knowledge back to their departments.
