Plane makes emergency landing at Fort Wayne Airport

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A Delta flight made an emergency landing at Fort Wayne International Airport moments after taking off there early Monday due to a landing gear issue.

The airport’s operations manager told WANE-TV that a Delta flight operated by Sky West departed for Minneapolis from Fort Wayne International with about 50 passengers aboard. After the plane took off, the crew realized there was an issue with plane’s landing gear.

The plane then turned back around and flew by the control tower for an inspection. The plane flew around the airport to burn off fuel, the operations manager said.

Ultimately, the plane’s landing gear worked like normal and it landed safely. The plane was towed to the terminal and a Sky West maintenance crew was called to inspect the plane.

The passengers were ushered to a secure area.

During the situation, a few non-commercial flights were grounded.
