Pennsylvania teacher charged for gun left in restroom

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A Cumberland Valley Christian School teacher is charged with endangering the welfare of children after police say she accidentally left a pistol in a school restroom.

Beth Dixon, 63, of St. Thomas, removed the pistol but kept it holstered while using the restroom on Aug. 25. She placed it in on the tank of a toilet and forgot it there, state police in Chambersburg said in a news release.

Police said four children ages 6-8 used the restroom while the pistol remained on the toilet tank. The last child to see it informed his parent, who informed another teacher.

At that point, police say Dixon remembered leaving the pistol in the restroom and retrieved it. She then called a school administrator to tell him what happened, and she voluntarily resigned from her job at the private school in Hamilton Township.

No one was hurt.

A news release does not say whether the gun was loaded.
