IMPD looking for suspect in Geist neighborhood home invasion

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A Geist neighborhood is on edge after Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers said a home invasion took place Wednesday morning.

“I cannot even imagine what she’s going through now, and I think I’m going to be paranoid now,” neighbor Irene Stoffl said.

“Broad daylight, being tied up in your own house,” neighbor Tom Stoffl said. “Kind of scary.”

It happened around ten on Prairie View Drive, near 82nd Street and Fall Creek Parkway. IMPD said a woman was tied up, and the suspect stole jewelry that was on her body.

“She’s extremely upset, which is to be expected on something like this,” IMPD Detective Scott Stauffer said. “But as far as physically, she’s fine.”

After stealing jewelry, the man took off. Police weren’t able to get a detailed description of the suspect or the vehicle but they said a neighbor spotted an older, gold-colored car leaving the home.

“He was coming out of the driveway at a high rate-of-speed, and the woman said that she had to obviously swerve to get to the way,” Detective Stauffer said.

Detectives said home burglaries happened near the Geist neighborhood a couple months ago. But police arrested a suspect.

“I’m just going to double check all the windows, and the doors every time when I get in the house, and lock myself in the house even during the day,” Irene Stoffl said.

“Hopefully it’s a one-time thing,” Tom Stoffl said. “I think the more that the neighbors are aware of what’s happened that everybody kind of pulls together and see something, say something.”
