IMS staffer to begin 2,255 mile charity ride to California

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – An Indianapolis Motor Speedway staffer is set to begin his charity ride to California Wednesday morning.

The Senior Corporate Counsel for IMS, Jimmie McMillian, is riding his Harley-Davidson for 35 hours and 2,255 miles. The journey will begin at IMS and end at the Verizon IndyCar Series finale in Sonoma.

The charity ride is to kick off a United Way 2017 fundraising campaign. McMillian is a United Way volunteer and donor in Indy.

“United Way of Central Indiana is proud to have community partners like the Indianapolis Motor Speedway,” said United Way Area Director West Adrianne Young. “Great leaders like Jimmie McMillian are the reason our organization is able to make such an impact in the community. We are excited to watch Jimmie’s journey across the country as he raises dollars to support our community’s greatest needs.”

McMillian began his journey at 9 a.m. at IMS, departing from the Yard of Bricks. Track president Doug Boles waved the green flag.
