South Carolina man got 11-year-old pregnant, DNA test shows

SPARTANBURG, SC (WSPA) – The Special Victims Unit of the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Wednesday for allegedly having sex with an acquaintance’s daughter, which resulted in a pregnancy.

The suspect is Derrick Kendall Burris of Pinelake Dr. in Spartanburg, according to investigators.

They say the investigation began in February, when victim told personnel at her school.

They say she originally claimed she was pregnant by a male closer to her own age, because she was scared to tell her mother the truth.

The girl finally said Burris was the true dad, and she was referred to the Children’s Advocacy Center for a forensic interview, according to investigators.

They say the girl was 10 years old when Burris started sexually assaulting her, 11 years old when he got her pregnant, and 12 years old when she had the baby in May of 2016.

Investigators say the DNA samples from the victim, the baby, and Burris proved he is the father.

Burris is being charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor – First Degree.

Court records show that Burris was convicted on two Armed Robbery charges in 2004 in Greenville County and was sentenced to 10 years in prison for each. Burris is also facing charges of Burglary and Grand Larceny from May of 2016 in Spartanburg County.
