Who killed Edward Rice: Mother pleads for information

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – On January 7, officers with Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the Masters Apartment complex near 96th and Masters Road. The call was for shots fired. Once on the scene officers discovered Edward Rice, 32, had been shot multiple times as he sat in the passenger seat of a car. Rice would later be pronounced dead on the scene.

Since the deadly shooting, there have been few leads or tips. Despite the lack of information, that hasn’t stopped Gary Smith, the lead detective on the case.

“These cases don’t go away, these are victims even though information hasn’t come forward to allow me to establish a probable cause,” said Smith.

24-Hour News 8, talked to Rice’s mother Marsha Rice on Thursday afternoon. She told us Rice was affectionately referred to as Eddie. She describes him as a loving son who was a jokester at heart.

She added that Eddie leaves behind a son, and he was the oldest of four. In our conversation over the phone, Marsha Rice asked for someone to come forward with information.

” I know that someone is out there that has some information in my son’s murder, and I’m asking them to come forward, and just think it could have been one of their family members,” said Rice.

If you have any information in this investigation you are urged to call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS, or 262-8477.
