Indiana trail project to receive more than $1M in funding

HUNTINGTON, Ind. (AP) – State officials say more than $1 million will be spent in Huntington County in northeastern Indiana on trail development.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. says about $263,000 for the Little River Trail comes from the state’s Regional Cities Initiative. The program gives money to proposals that encourage counties and cities to collaborate on regional development projects. The Northeast Indiana Regional Development Authority recommended the trails project for funding.

State officials say the rest of the project is a combination of public and private investments.

State officials say the project will have more than three-quarters of a mile of trails for pedestrians and cyclists, connecting downtown Huntington with a regional trail network along the Little River.

The project also will include streetscape improvements, a pavilion and a rest area.
