Police: Revenge most likely motive of 21-year-old who shot, killed roommate

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police have identified the victim who was fatally shot by their 21-year-old roommate.

According to police, the victim is 65-year-old William “Bill” Schumacher of Indianapolis.

Police believe the motive of the suspect, Walter Davis, was likely revenge.

The suspect is being held in the Marion County Jail and awaiting a charging decision. The results are expected to be sometime Friday.

IMPD officers were informed of a possible unresponsive body located inside a house on the south side of Indianapolis. They were also told the suspect was possibly at a home in Beech Grove on Tuesday just before 5 p.m.

Police first went to the 100 block of South 2nd Street and arrested Davis.

After developing more information and obtaining a search warrant, officers went to the 5400 block of Armstrong Court where they found the body of Schumacher, suffering from at least one gun shot wound.

Police said Davis provided them with a statement stating he was the shooter that killed the victim. He told police he shot the victim in the morning hours on Tuesday inside the home.
